Not the 'Devil's work': Reversing Club Foot Deformities in Children

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Center of Excellence — which recently received an increase in funding — works to connect families with education and resources regarding fetal alcohol syndrome disorder (FASD). The funding is intended to address the backlog of families in need of a formal FASD diagnosis.

HelpMum offers a vaccination tracker app that allows parents to track their babies’ immunization schedules. Parents can track their child’s vaccination records and see when they’re due for another dose to ensure they’re staying up to date on immunizations.

Following the overturn of Roe v. Wade, access to safe, legal abortion in the U.S. is scarce. While several states have banned mifepristone and misoprostol — the two drugs that makeup abortion pills — misoprostol, which has been found to be the more effective of the two, can still be accessed at some pharmacies and through nonprofits in the U.S. and overseas like Plan C and Aid Access.

M-SCAN is improving maternal health outcomes in Uganda by offering mobile ultrasounds to pregnant women. The health ministry recommends at least one ultrasound before a woman gives birth, but there are many barriers to access of these scans, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. M-SCAN has brought scans to over 1,000 women. The scans are brought to the homes of pregnant women at no cost. The mobile ultrasound scans have improved the ability of medical professionals to provide appropriate care to mothers and their newborns and have also decreased mothers’ anxieties by giving them peace of mind.

New mothers who live in poverty are faced with fewer resources to help them with their physical and mental health as well as the health of their babies. In New York City, the Nurse-Family partnership matches nurses with economically poor first-time mothers. Different studies have shown that women in the program have healthier pregnancies and children.

In 2025, Bauchi State launched the Impact Project to address Nigeria's maternal health crisis by deploying 100 Skilled Birth Attendants across 20 Local Government Areas, alongside free delivery kits and regular salary payments to increase access to professional childbirth care.

Three hospitals throughout Mississippi rank at the top for having the lowest number of C-sections in first-time, full-term pregnancies. The hospitals achieved this by making midwife care a regular part of the birthing experience, despite not having a midwifery certification program in the state.

To aid in postpartum hemorrhage care, the Kisumu Medical and Education Trust distributes uterine balloon tamponade kits that can be used to stop excessive bleeding and prevent death after other measures have failed. The kits have been provided to more than 1,300 healthcare facilities in 23 countries and over 6,000 healthcare workers have been trained to use them.

The Niger State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has recruited 200 midwives, assigning at least one to healthcare facilities across the state, in an effort to address high rates of maternal and infant death during childbirth. There are currently 266 midwives distributed among facilities, helping aid in midwife retention and increase access to care.

After two years of activity, the National Vaccination Program against Human Papillomavirus (HPV)  reached over 90% vaccination coverage. Following the success of the vaccination program, a low-cost screening program was launched. With more vaccinations and screening for early detection, 2,575 HPV vaccines were administered, 62,468 women and girls were screened, 5,563 people were treated for pre-cancerous lesions and 1230 cases of cervical cancer were diagnosed in 2021.
