Making IDPs dream of moving out of camps possible

The Green Phoenix Farm is a job training program for women who have experienced homelessness and offers them employment, mentorship, and advocacy. In 2021, the farm produced $110,000 worth of value off of .8 acres under cultivation, which is 17 times the economic output of an average vegetable farm in the United States.

ACCESS Development Services trains women to drive electric auto rickshaws, providing them with marketable skills that help them earn a living independently. The all-women Pink City Rickshaw Company employs the women to provide tours throughout the city and has since trained over 200 women.

Local organizations such as Mujeres Rurales Argentinas and the provincial Ministry of Agriculture's Gender Cabinet are empowering rural women through artisanal tea production. By offering training programs structured around women's caregiving schedules, creating spaces for gender-inclusive collaboration, and advocating for policy changes, these groups have helped increase women's leadership roles in tea production, as more than half of artisan producers are now women.

Women Rising for Africa is training women to become boda boda taxi drivers, teaching them the necessary skills to enter the male-dominated industry and gain financial independence. The organization enrolls the women in defensive riding, road safety, self-defence, financial literacy and first-aid classes to equip them when entering the business. Since 2022, the group has trained 90 women riders.

The Youngstars Foundation shares booklets with young girls of stories about women who have succeeded in their careers to inspire them to find a new sense of confidence and establish their own ambitious career goals. Between 2017 and 2019, 5,000 booklets were distributed to 4,500 young girls across 36 states. The Foundation also has an online module for the program, which over 18,000 young women and girls have signed up for.

Despite it being a historically male-dominated field, women in Kashmir are learning copper smithing to become both socially and financially independent. Women who have mastered the skill then teach it to others, allowing more and more women to not only learn a valuable skill, but to secure income to support themselves.

To combat unemployment, the Girls2Women Initiative runs 6- to 12-week training programs for girls and women in underserved communities in Nigeria. During this time they learn skills they can use to find a job or start their own business in industries like graphic design, decor, and tailoring.

South Dakota technical colleges partner closely with the renewable energy industry through specialized academic programs, responsive curriculum changes, and targeted scholarships, effectively addressing workforce shortages, achieving high-paying job placements, and catalyzing local economic growth.

The Advocacy for Human Value Foundation works to protect vulnerable communities — like women and children — in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps due to the Boko Haram crises. The Foundation has addressed fundamental community needs by increasing access to water and hygiene facilities, healthcare services, educational opportunities, safety practices and has even partnered with entrepreneurs to empower women with profitable skills and small grants to help make them more independent.

The Sebastian Indian Social Projects (SISP) works with socio-economically disadvantaged communities, providing social services like healthcare and employment assistance with a primary focus on educating youth. SISP has focused on educating the local female population, which has helped empower them economically and led to several women receiving jobs outside of their village. SISP has also educated several students who were forced to drop out of traditional school and provides supplementary activities along with their standard education, such as skating and coding clubs.
