In this Manila 'baby factory,' why women put up with crowding four to a bed

Medical Missionaries of Mary is a Christian faith-based organization that works to complement the government's efforts of helping those experiencing vesicovaginal fistula by providing access to surgery for free. The group also addresses stigma around the condition and helps create a sense of community for patients.

To help pregnant women during the COVID-10 pandemic, the government in Uganda sold travel and private hospital care vouchers to those in their third trimester to ensure the women had access to the care they would need. The program connected the women with health resources in their own areas and also guaranteed that they get routine services such as antenatal and postnatul checkups.

Casa Mía provides housing and support services for pregnant women and new mothers struggling with addiction. The program is run out of an old house and is currently home to nine women. Staff at Casa Mía provide mental health care, recovery resources and work to destigmatize substance abuse to prevent mothers from losing their children to the foster care system.

The Women-Inspired Neighborhood (WIN) Network: Detroit works to improve Black infant health outcomes by providing support services like group prenatal care, targeted home visits, and breastfeeding programs. By using the CenteringPregancy model, over 600 women have gone through the program and there have been zero preventable infant deaths. Win also helps direct women toward resources like stable housing and higher education.

TEAMM Project — short for Training, Education and Advocacy in Miscarriage Management — is a nonprofit that hosts workshops for healthcare providers in more than 100 sites in 19 states on everything they need to know about miscarriage care. Miscarriage care is often lacking in emergency rooms, which can be dangerous for the person having a miscarriage. To remedy this, TEAMM Project educates and advocates for the use of manual vacuum aspiration kits, training providers on how to use them.

Fistula repair surgery has become routine in the state of Kebbi in Nigeria thanks to the implementation of a health center that has made treatment easier for women to access. The center aims to address both medical and societal causes, by addressing underlying issues and patient-centered health practices.

In Armenia, sons are far more desired than daughters leading to a high prevalence of sex-selective abortions that is resulting in a shortage of girls. 'Save the Children' works with families to help them see how similar girls and boys are, in order to help decrease abortions.

In the Philipines, contraception has been hard to find resulting in many parents without money to feed their children, unsafe abortions, and poor maternal health. A new reproductive law aims to change this by allowing contraception in clinics to help women take control of their reproductive systems.

A Buffalo, New York clinic provides a space for both abortions and natural births. In looking at the experiences as a continuum, rather than as juxtaposing sides, the hope is to change how people think about the birth experiences.
