Charlotte's tight housing market can prove unaffordable to young professionals, with high rents equal to half a person's income. The developers, who incorporated ancient relics like a bathhouse and the world's largest mosaic floor, work consciously to preserve and memorialize the land they are building on to ensure culture significance is not lost among new developments.

Eighteen "purpose built communities" across America have revitalized neighborhoods through a comprehensive approach that includes building mixed-income housing, providing better educational opportunities and offering health and wellness services. The model focuses on establishing a strong "cradle-to-college education pipeline" which attracts upper-income families and creates socio-economic diversity. Community centers, green spaces, and grocery stores all revitalize and bring new development to these neighborhoods. Rivercrest, a neighborhood in Montgomery, Alabama is seeking to replicate the model.

After facing a shortage of bricklayers, the Netherlands found a housing solution which also doubled as a way of cutting development costs and damage to the environmental. Project Milestone, a development that creates 3D printed houses, is the first of its kind and is already drawing a steady residential candidate pool.

Drawing on his experience creating affordable housing abroad, Hugh Brennan created the Ó Cualann Cohousing Alliance just outside Dublin, Ireland, where state and city officials are grappling with a shortage of affordable housing. The OCCA has brought together local governing councils and private investors to remedy the issue.

Unlike many other countries who have found public housing facilities to be highly prone to crime and toxic loan practices, Singapore uses a mix of resident home ownership, policing, and mixed-income developments to create thriving, clean housing options that may provide a model for other countries.
