Volunteers from the program visit schools to talk to students, providing interventions and educational resources to help them understand the dangers of drug use. School officials say that since the program began talking with students, they have seen a significant increase in good behavior and a reduction in substance use.

How indoor residual spraying helping to fight Malaria in Rwanda

Indoor Residual Spraying is being used as an intervention to reduce the transmission of malaria. Trained teams spray the insecticide in about 10 homes a day. Since this method of prevention was introduced in 2007, there has been a significant decrease in malaria cases. From 2016 to 2022, malaria cases went from 409 per 1,000 people to just 76 cases and deaths fell by more than 89%.

The drapes collect the blood and are marked with measurements so healthcare workers can monitor blood loss and interfere and provide care before it’s too late. The drapes were tested in 78 hospitals throughout the country between August 2021 and the end of 2022 and allowed healthcare workers to interfere with excessive bleeding in time for 90% of patients.
