Young Nigerians are tackling the stigma of mental health

Team Rubicon, a non-profit organization of military veterans that provides disaster relief, has provided relief after flooding in Detroit, tornadoes in Oklahoma, a typhoon in the Philippines and an earthquake in Nepal, among dozens of other communities across the globe.

The LGBTQ2S+ organizations Chroma N.B. and QT Fatties work together to provide free chest binders to New Brunswick residents.

In Korca, Albania, the Community Safety Net program supports elderly people who live alone in a variety of ways. Volunteers provide essentials like medication, food, and firewood. But they also organize social activities for groups of seniors to help combat loneliness.

Black Men Heal provides access to mental health treatment and resources to men of color. The organization offers eight free therapy sessions to Black men who fill out an application to qualify for the program and are then matched with therapists of color. Black Men Heal has provided 1,295 free sessions so far and has graduated its 10th cohort of patients, 75% of whom are staying in therapy.

Under a structured parole system, since March 2024, Nepal's Federal Probation and Parole Board has released 2,993 prisoners early, successfully reintegrating offenders into society and easing prison overcrowding, with a violation rate of just 2.98%.

Social prescribing connects people with nonclinical activities, like art classes, nature walks and book clubs, to help them manage their mental health systems. Groups like Art Pharmacy, local universities and even the Cleveland Clinic, are prescribing these activities as a way to treat underlying issues like isolation and social stress.

FeelNHeal is a safe space where women who were displaced due to conflict can prioritize their mental health. The Nigerian initiative helps young girls and women heal using outreach, education, connections with professional therapists, and group sessions that include art and games.

The Donetsk Regional Children and Youth Center runs the Technology of Good Volunteering School, a program designed to help teenagers build social and civic skills and learn how to contribute to their communities. Graduates have spearheaded projects such as creating a children's room for a local hospital and sewing baby clothes for new mothers.

A group of volunteers in Ukraine created the Brave to Rebuild initiative to clear debris and make necessary repairs to homes that were destroyed in the war so their inhabitants can spend the winter in them.

The Harlem Heat Project collected data on heat and humidity from citizen scientists with sensors in their apartments. They used that data to show how external factors impact indoor temperatures and indoor heat waves to advocate for improved electricity-bill relief and cooling centers.
