Why Is Silicon Valley So Awful to Women?

Many companies in Silicon Valley, such as Google and Facebook, use unconscious-bias training to address the lack of workforce diversity and accusations of a culture of sexism and racism. Evidence does not support the success of this type of training however, where a facilitator tells people how to act and may unintentionally normalize biases. These trainings identify implicit biases but do not provide tools to change the behaviors. Some companies are beginning to revamp hiring and retention practices to ensure greater workforce diversity, and developers are creating anti-bias apps to provide guidelines.
