How to Begin Fixing the Wage Gap

Emma Griebe

This collection of stories focuses on ways to solve the gender wage gap. Throughout the world, people of different genders and gender identities are discriminated against in terms of what they are paid for their work. This collection includes how other countries and businesses have started to solve this problem, including legislation and company accountability approaches. While disclosing salary information is a valuable tool, these stories suggest that companies and/ or government legislation should take the responsibility for paying their employees equally. One article discusses how Germany’s large businesses provide wage transparency, but this is where their wage advocacy ends. Another article discusses how providing wage transparency is a possible solution to this problem, however, this is only a beginning as wage advocacy is a multiple step process. Two articles discuss how Iceland’s legislation now requires companies to pay equally for equal work and another article discusses a company that paid employees the same wage and the positive results they have seen.
