This collection features stories of the story type "experiment in progress".

In some cases, reporters have an opportunity to cover an ongoing program that has clear pros and cons. This type of story has usually a bit more data and evidence behind it in comparison to the "big new idea" structure.

In her story "Less lecturing, more doing: New approach for A.P. classes", which appeared in the Seattle Times' "Education Lab" series in March 2014, author Linda Shaw chronicles a new style of teaching advanced placement classes in high schools. Specifically, one that favors group work and debates over straight lectures.

Since the experiment is still ongoing, results are mixed. Shaw is very forthcoming about the limitations, but at the same time does not shy away from the promise it holds.
