Eyemark is a mobile application that allows citizens to track, monitor, and evaluate Federal Government projects they’re interested in across the country, as these projects often get abandoned with little to no information shared with the public. App users can also leave reviews of projects, as well as feedback that officials can address.

Human Development Initiatives trains community members to monitor school infrastructure projects eligible for government education funding and gather information to present to the state board when projects are not completed. As a result of the community tracking efforts, several schools have received significant upgrades.

Media Rights Agenda helped a community in Lagos, Nigeria, submit Freedom of Information Act requests to draw attention to the community’s lack of basic amenities like roads and clean water. When government organizations ignored the requests, the organization took legal action and released a documentary about the issue to gain public support.

The UDEME Monitor program trains student journalists to track and report on transparency and accountability around publicly-funded projects. The team has produced roughly 1,000 stories exposing corruption and gaps in implementation and has worked directly with community residents to raise awareness around procurement processes.

The Lagos State Health Scheme in Nigeria helps pay health insurance premiums for people with disabilities who may not otherwise be able to afford health care free of charge.

The Kwara Initiative provides free rapid test kits and treatment for malaria to over 500 public health centers in the state. The initiative also issued the State Malaria Elimination Program, which works to help control cases of malaria in the state. So far, over 5,000 households have benefitted from the free malaria treatment.

After two years of activity, the National Vaccination Program against Human Papillomavirus (HPV)  reached over 90% vaccination coverage. Following the success of the vaccination program, a low-cost screening program was launched. With more vaccinations and screening for early detection, 2,575 HPV vaccines were administered, 62,468 women and girls were screened, 5,563 people were treated for pre-cancerous lesions and 1230 cases of cervical cancer were diagnosed in 2021.

With unemployment high among people under age 35, Rwanda is emphasizing technical and vocational education training to help better prepare graduates for the labor market. The country now has 456 technical and vocational education schools that offer programs ranging from tailoring to auto mechanics to computer systems technology, with graduates reporting that the training has helped them find jobs or start their own businesses.

A comprehensive initiative to reduce stunting in children caused by malnutrition and poverty is seeing positive results in Rwanda. The government has provided food, frequent health assessments, and has also encouraged families to plant vegetable gardens.

Several initiatives, from family planning and birth assistance education to improving access to hospital care, are reducing maternal and infant deaths. The Motor Ambulance initiative helps women get to hospitals in emergencies by providing 165 tricycles designed to navigate difficult terrain. The ambulances are run and maintained by local communities. Another program improving access to care is a health voucher system that helps women to pay for hospital deliveries. Women buy an affordable delivery kit that provides hospital staff with everything they need, including if there are complications.
