The education gap in the United States can have a profound effect on the outcome of students; however, there have been some policies implemented within schools and states that have proved to be effective. Amongst first-generation students in college and schools from k-12, there have been many programs enacted to serve students who may not have equal access to resources at home or school. Colorado, according to our collection, has one of the highest achievement gaps. Rocky Mountain Prep is working to change and individualized programs to fit a students needs and reflect their culture. Another reason to choose the achievement gap, is because students missed out on $65 million on financial aid in order to pay for college. They have found that the achievement gap has decreased by 26 % when students have access to people who are able to help them with the cost of attending college.
