It is no debate whether humans have negatively affected the balance of our Earth's natural system. The question is now, almost 200 years from the peak of the industrial revolution, how can we as responsible creatures of this planet work to slow, or even stop the further destruction of this earth's climate and resources? The major themes in these articles are focused around alternatives for day to day activities that can fulfill our needs while being more environmentally friendly. Scientists, farmers, activists, and more have come together over the last few years to create an outstanding amount of new technology and practices that if used by the majority, could significantly change our current environmental situation in a positive way. Socio- environmental considerations around mitigation would be the accessibility for certain groups to use these practices over others. When we think about electric cars, solar power, waste management, agriculture, etc. we have to understand that many people would choose the better option for the environment if it was more affordable. Mitigation starts by identifying an issue and saying, “this is wrong and or bad for the environment, we should stop doing it.” Yet we can't tell people to stop something when there is no other option for them. Mitigation puts the protection of our environment and natural resources over everything. While large scale solutions require action on an international scale, individual changes on a day to day basis can help encourage others around you and promote a positive attitude around personal responsibility to help the environment.
