1. A few points or impressions about each story that impressed me were gun safety, suicide prevention, health and safety, and homelessness. In the first article I added to my collection, “Gun Shops Work With Doctors To Prevent Suicide By Firearm”, I learned and took away that doctors are currently trying to slow down the rate of suicide by firearms. This is an ongoing problem in the United States as depression has increased over the years and the ability to own a gun has become surprisingly easy. In the second article, “Take This Apartment and Call Me in the Morning”, I was amazed by how little housing care there is for families and how important that could be towards someone’s healthcare.

2. In the first article I was very interested in seeing how the doctors were going to work with the gun shops in helping prevent suicide. I think that it is imperative that people who go out and buy a gun from these gun shops have no signs or have ever had signs of severe depression. I thought it was very interesting to find out about the idea of asking a patient if they owned a gun and how the law in Florida, “Docs v Glocks” was ruled unconstitutional. The idea about handing out pamphlets in gun shops is also a good way to remind people who are buying guns to put them away and make sure that if they are going through a bad time to give them to a friend so they don’t get tempted to use them. There are many ways to help prevent these suicides, but is there really that much that a gun shop can do? While reading the second article I realized housing is essentially healthcare for people who are homeless. People who are homeless are more inclined to get sick, be injured, or have many other health issues because they do not have a safe environment to live in. Places like The Brook, which has a doctor, security, and social workers are imperative to help people who have been struggling and going through hard times get back on their feet. These people were once homeless or had it rough and now are getting a second chance at life and there aren’t enough places like this.

3. While reading the solutions I gained a new understanding of how important shelter is for people who are struggling and the issues that can occur because of not having a place to live. I also learned how important Medicare and healthcare are towards to these people, but that a shelter can make everything so much better. I also learned new information about gun shops and how they have to go about selling their guns and be weary about who they are selling them to and why. It is also an interesting perspective to think about gun safety from the suicide prevention or psychologist side of things. While thinking about someone and the idea that they may hurt themselves the thought of asking them if they have a gun or making sure they understand how dangerous and lethal guns really are.

4. Another story that I read that I would give an “honorable mention” to is the story titled “These Toy Cars Help Kids with Disabilities Get Moving.” This article is about how one man combined the idea of a toy car and made it accessible to children with disabilities and mobility issues. It talks about how he created the toy and how it makes the young children happy to being doing the same things as other children. I would’ve shared this article also but it was not my top choice because of how short the article was, however I did find it very interesting. The idea Galloway had is truly amazing and how he transformed his idea into an invention creating a car to help people with disabilities is truly inspiring.

5. I would just like share how important gun safety is from a gun shops perspective and the side of a doctor when trying to treat depression. A doctor trying to treat depression and help a patient with gun safety is extremely important in preventing suicides by firearms. I also would like to share that it is important to help those in need or struggling without housing because being homeless is a serious issue in our country and around the world. Helping these people find shelter can really change their lives and bring them back on their feet and start a new chapter in their life, just like Lissette in the article I read.
