The selected stories aim to identify and provide solutions to the immediate threat of globally rising sea levels, attributed to climate change. The first article, “Fingerprinting the Ocean to Predict Devastating Sea Level Rise” describes the research being done on changing sea levels. This information can be used by countries and cities to inform their adaptation plans/measures for rising sea level. The next two articles, “The Dutch Have Solutions to Rising Seas. The World is Watching,” and “Vancouver versus the Rising Sea, How the City is Adapting to Climate Change” are both case studies on the individual cities’ responses and adaptation measures to encroaching seas. The fourth article, “Fighting Back a Rising Tide” illustrates how countries are learning from each other (networking) and adopting similar measures to combat sea level rise. This can be seen in Bangladesh’s use of Dutch engineering, such as embankments and polders, in its prevention efforts. The final article, “How Miami Beach Is Keeping the Florida Dream Alive-And Dry” is another case study of how a large city is ensuring its way of life survives by implementing anti-flooding and prevention measures in the wake of rising seas. In short, the articles focus on the mechanics of sea level rise, future predictions, and countermeasures being implemented by countries and cities to rescue their homes from the waves.
