"Black people are over-mentored and underfunded". African and Caribbean Americans are forced to settle for jobs that are dehumanizing. House cleaners are forced to work long hours and have limited work opportunities. The next generation of low-income black people come from a parent that doesn't have substantial education to inspire them to become leaders. Everyone should have the opportunity to partake in a democratic system and be able to have agency in how they chose to generate income and stability. Not only should entrepreneurial ventures be encouraged, but work systems should shift to more employee ownership models that will allow more flexible schedules and more decision-making power. Here is a collection of stories that show what happens when black people aspire to work more that a 9-to-5 job and are sufficiently funded for ventures that align with other SDG goals.
