The internet can reveal people's worst behavior. Death threats, rape threats, bullying, stalking, and racial slurs are all rampant behaviors online, but they are hard to police, and haven't been completely criminalized. The issue is further complicated by the anonymity of the internet, and the values it aims to uphold.

Harry Bruinius of the Christian Science Monitor observes, "The same powers of anonymous expression that provide the freedom to voice an idea or opinion or 'like' in the world also enable anonymous responses. "

There are no guidelines that outline how to police hate speech, pushing social media platforms, and game developers into murky territory.

This collection highlights some of the efforts that are being tested and proposed, things like civility pledges, reformation cards, community enforcement, state laws, and one high school student led program called "Drop the Drama."
